We’re Parkinson’s UK. The charity that’s here to support every Parkinson’s journey, every step of the way.

We don’t wait for change, we make it happen. Campaigning for better health and care. Funding research into groundbreaking new treatments. Running life-changing support services.

We’re a powerful community united by one mission: improving life with Parkinson’s.

In the last 50 years, we’ve invested more than £120 million in cutting-edge research to uncover the causes of Parkinson’s. We believe we’re close to finding a solution. But to get there, we need people like you!

Guided by the Parkinson’s community, we’ve shaped our strategy ‘Every Parkinson’s Journey’ for 2023 to 2026.   Our strategic aims are focused on improving access to health and care; improving our community offer and continuing with our groundbreaking research.

We're a growing organisation with 605 employees, 4000 volunteers and a projected income of £43m. The Board of Trustees and its committees govern the charity with diligence and enthusiasm and make sure we're financially stable, well-run, and delivering what the Parkinson's community really needs.

About the role

Our trustees and independent committee members come from a wide range of backgrounds and have diverse experience, which we draw on to guide and oversee the charity’s work.

Our Investment Committee comprises trustees and investment experts, each with different skills, whose role is to steward our investment portfolios.

Its aim is to help the Board  to properly discharge its responsibilities of ensuring that the Charity has an appropriate investment policy and effective investment and treasury procedures.  Operating within these policies, procedures and the law and to advise on relevant property matters.

Aside from its appointed investment managers, the Investment Committee does not rely on professional advisors or consultants although these may be engaged from time to time.

What you’ll bring

As part of our succession strategy and to complement our collective skillset we are looking for a collaborative and informed investment expert with:

Experience of:

  • multi-asset investing, either by actively advising on, managing or having managed  multi-asset portfolios  or through experience as an advisor or portfolio manager to charities within a wealth or asset management business

  • a broad range of investment products, strategies and global markets

A knowledge and understanding of:

  • the UK charity investment landscape and direct experience of engaging with charities on their investments

  • investment statements and reporting, including portfolio and wider industry and sector benchmarks

  • investment risk and how this can be managed within a portfolio

  • how ESG considerations can be built into an investment process and how to review the manager’s reporting and performance with regard to such issues

In addition to the above, the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:

  • Commitment to the aims and values of Parkinson’s UK

  • Understanding of the duties and responsibilities of being a committee member

  • Willingness to devote the necessary time and effort

  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team while contributing an independent perspective

  • Commitment to the seven Nolan Principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership
